If you are thinking that the Shure SM58 looks ordinary and lacks features, it is worth noting that it is one of the worlds most prolific microphones and is undoubtedly used in the largest productions of all time, both live and studio. It makes this list as Shure has come out with a USB adaptor to expand the microphones audience and play a roll in everyday uses.

Though used for a wide variety of recording applications, the Shure SM58 is designed for professional vocal use and is tailored specifically for singing and speech. It is constructed in such a way as to filter out vocal pops and breath noise to give a clear, accurate playback. Its unidirection cardioid polar pattern is built to isolate the main sound source and minimize unwanted background noise.

The X2U XLR to USB adapter has all the essential controls: gain, volume, monitor level, and of course has a headphone input for real-time playback. It has a +48V Phantom Power switch should you ever need to plug in a different microphone via USB that requires it. A blue indicator light shows that the Phantom Power is on while the green one indicates you’re connection to USB is functional.

This combo also includes a padded pouch and a USB cable but no XLR so if you’re looking to use it for analog applications be sure to pick one up.
